Description

The title LAGUNA stands for "Lie AlGebras and UNits of group Algebras". Since 2003 this is the new name of the GAP package LAG, which was superseded by LAGUNA.

LAGUNA extends the GAP functionality for calculations in group rings. Besides computing some general properties and attributes of group rings and their elements, it can perform two main kinds of computations. Namely, it can verify whether a group algebra of a finite group satisfies certain Lie properties, and it can calculate the structure of the normalised unit group of a group algebra of a finite p-group over the field of p elements.

LAGUNA has the status of an accepted GAP package since June 2003.

The GAP package UnitLib extends the LAGUNA package with a library of normalized unit groups of modular group algebras of all p-groups of order not greater than 243 over the fiels of p elements.

Installation

Download and unpack the archive given below in the pkg subdirectory of your GAP installation.

Follow the instructions in the chapter `Installation' of the manual. The manual is available below or in the subdirectory laguna/doc.

Online Documentation

The manual of the package is available in several formats. If the package has been installed properly, all of these documents are also accessible through the GAP online help.

The PackageInfo.g file is available as plain text file.

Bibliography

We maintain a list of references to the LAGUNA package (and its predecessor LAG). It contains papers and software manuals where these packages were included in the bibliography or mentioned in the text. We will appreciate your additions or corrections to this list sent to one of the package maintainers.

If you publish a result that was partially obtained with the help of LAGUNA, please cite it in the following form:
